OMG people, I can’t believe I haven’t posted since Chinese New Year D: I feel like I’ve been in a winter related coma since about October, I’ve hardly done any dorrie things. Now that spring is on the way however, my lovely friend ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) raineonthebrain has bullied me into doing doll stuff with her.
I’m around her house at the moment, using her monumental computer to post this :O we’ve been painting all weekend, me mostly swearing at my airbrush, but it has produced some good results!
First up is the lovely Luna Moon, a LUTS Miyu that I've already painted once before - but I wasn't happy with it, so raineonthebrain indulged me and let me do it again. Second time, much better :3 all shots were taken on her fab camera. ( More Luna... )
I've also recently revised a modded School A from Singapore. I've never really seen one up close, but he does have a rather lovely face (if slightly fishy lips :O). If you've been reading my kafers journal, you'll know my computer has been a bit f**ked recently, so I wasn't looking at any references when I painted it. Dear readers, this was very foolish. Let that be a lesson to all face-up artists, always use the bloody reference, because my poor customer was a bit like what the piss? So XD I've done it again, but not before taking this rather dramatic picture (followed by the improved look) ( OMG SchA failz )
I have some more commissions to work on, so hopefully it won't be another 3 billion months before I post again D':

Another commission finished! I feel like I haven't had enough practice recently, and that makes me sad >: I always want to do better, but I tend to fall well below my own expectations. I need to practice a lot more before I'll be happy with them...

In other news, I got a new doll yesterday :D well, really I've had her head for a while, but now she finally has a body. I shall post pictures tomorrow ♥ because I ordered her at Christmas, I also got the free Wintery head, which I would really love to give a gothic face-up, ahahah.
As for other projects, I've begun more work on my historical outfits for my dolls. Its Chinese New Year next week, so that will give me some photo opportunity, and then in late Feb, it's the Viking Festival here in York. I really want to have some dorrie Viking costumes done by then, so watch this space.

My god, I'm so sick at the moment. I haven't posted in forever, because I've been super busy with work, and now I'm like the black death or something *hates being stuck in bed*
Sometimes I really wish I had more time to devote to my doll work, but I need to pay the bills more, unfortunately. Perhaps I will just take pictures of them, to cheer myself up.
Anyways, just finished two bodies for cutemeow on DOA. Yes, she sent me two! I sanded off all their seams (time consuming @_@) and also blushed their feet and hands. Here they are, naked as usual;

In other news, I might be getting a new doll soon. Well, not new really - I've had her head for a while, but I think it's about time I got her body. Another girl for me :) exciting ♥

The airbrush experiments continue! I blushed Padma's body this weekend, and was mighty proud of the results! I have learnt a lot about my airbrush as well - mostly what duel action can really do (and man, it can do it well!), and also that leaving paint in the nozzle for too long is very retarded. By too long, I mean more than a minute; you have to be super fast, because the acrylic can dry very quickly. It made the process time consuming, but overall worthwhile. I didn't have to waste as much MSC as I normally with, with just pastel blushing.
Anyways, here she is, nipples and all;
You can't see all of them, but her whole body is dotted with freckles :)

Hello chums, been a while! I've finally finished a commission I've been sitting on for a while - I'm pleased with the modding results, but the face-up is so-so. I'm still kind of practicing with my airbrush, but it was a free face-up anyways, so meh.
This lovely Breakaway belongs to Wolfeclaw. I opened his eyes and gave him a face-up.
It's been a long while since I've done anything at all with my own dolls. Working a lot doesn't really help, although I did have time to do some re-stringing last weekend. What I would really like to do is have time to make more clothes for them all :/ but alas, I either have time or money, and not both unfortunately.

Hey everyone! I've been so run off my feet recently, I haven't posted anything D: I haven't really had any new commissions to work on either, so a disappointing lack of work there. Lameness.

Whee, finished another commission! I'm pretty pleased with this one - the owner asked for a blue and silver cyber face-up, so I looked at some Giger paintings for inspiration :3 lets see how she turned out...
I also sanded her nose and upper lip a little.

I have also, FINALLY, ordered a motherf*@#ing airbrush! I cannot wait for it to arrive, its on dispatch at the moment >__< its like waiting for a doll, I'm so excited. I know airbrushes aren't the be all or end all of face-up tools, because there are some beautiful pastel ones out there - but to be honest, I like the texture of airbrushed face-ups more. Plus, its going to make body blushing a hell of a lot easier @_@;
As soon as it arrives, I'm going to start re-doing most of my dolls face-ups. Barry needs it desperately, as does Jin. Then I'm going to work on some of my secret projects >:] watch this space....

So, I've gotten a bit further with my clothing project :3
This is going to be pretty huge, since I want to eventually make medieval/Tudor inspired outfits for all my dolls, plus other historical outfits... but this one is a start. Since Padma is my favourite torture victim doll at the moment, I'm making her a Tudor inspired dress. Which has layers. Layer upon layer... this is only the beginning!

As you can see, the sleeves of the smock still need a bit of work, but the corset is perfect! I boned it using cable ties :3 and then I hand-sewed the eyelets at the back. Most of this is going to be hand-sawn, but that's okay, because its easier on a small scale.
Next I need to make her a petticoat, the kirtle (which is the main dress) the gown (the overdress) and possibly a Spanish farthingale (the skirt with hoops in, which gives the dress a bell shape). Think pink people :) I might even have a go at making a pair of pink silk shoes as well...
When I finish this, I'm going to make a fur lined cloak for Orris ^^

I’m technically on holiday at the moment, using my parent’s computer to post this. I didn’t think I’d have a chance to, but it’s always nice to get something finished. I’m home for the wedding of the century – already done the Chinese ceremony, and then on Friday we’re off to Ireland for the next bit (and by that, I mean there will be more wedding... lots more wedding).
But anyways, here’s a doll I was touching up for the lovely liarakon from DOA
I touched up his face-up, adding the white and black around his eyes, as well as some sparkle which my camera can’t really pick up.

I’ve almost finished Padma’s corset as well, which I’m very pleased with – I’ll take some pictures of it when I get home next week. Half of it I sawed on the machine, and then I’ve done the rest by hand. The outfit will look awesome when its done.
Right now I’m going to happily gaze into my mother’s beautiful garden, and possibly make myself a smoothie. Happy days :)

Lately I've been inspired to make new clothes for my own dolls. I stopped making them ages ago, due to lack of time and energy, but something's made me pick my enthusiasm up again. Namely my new obsession with historical clothing.
Even work would be insanely dull if not for my new obsession. I work for something called YAT, which runs three major museums in the city I live in. I usually work in only one of them, but now I've been trained to give tours of our medieval hall, which has set of many sparks of inspiration. After making my own medieval dress to wear, I couldn't help thinking I'd love to make some for my dolls.
I've always hated most of the historical clothing I see on dolls. It always looks so fake and gaudy, mostly because people use cheap fabrics that look, well... cheap. But when I discovered you can actually get things like thin wool mixes that look like the real thing, and even cotton linens, well. I've already started collecting fabrics - mostly real silk, and I scavenged some leftover wool from people at work. I don't really want to restrict myself to a particular period - though most of it will be Tudor themed, with maybe a bit of Dark Ages Viking/Anglo-Saxon inspired.
I've already started making a boned corset for Padma. I cannot express how much fun I'm having with making it - unlike modern type clothing, but I find very boring to make, the quality of the things I want to make, and all the referencing which I enjoy doing, is really a pleasure for me. I can't wait to have pictures, but its not quite ready yet... then I have to start on the silk dress @_@ layers, how I love thee.
Anyways, historical rambling over. Here's a lovely Aragon minimee head I painted for Witchypoo. His beard is mighty.

My lovely little Shushu arrived today. She's a hell of a lot cuter than I thought she would be! I was a bit worried she wouldn't fit into the character I had in mind for her, but she's more than perfect - a lot of owner pictures make Shushu look very same-y and blank, but she has the sweetest, almost knowing smile on her face. She's definitely my Bridget, the goddess of nature in the form of a child.
For now though, she seems to want me to call her Dorothy, so I'll go with that. She may be small and innocent looking, but she's more powerful than the Queen of fairies herself. She just prefers sweets over world domination, haha.

Came home early from work today, so I decided to do some modding work. I have loads of heads that are just laying around, doing nothing, waiting for me to mod them into something beautiful. Beautiful like Frankenstein's monster, ahahaha.
Actually, the heads aren't really lying around. They're in a box. A box of heads. THE HEAD BOX. All doll heads that come to me end up in 'THE BOX'. It's one of my proudest creations - I also have a biscuit tin with a few heads in, but the problem with that is I can't see the heads, which means I often forget they're even there. So the solution would be an open box, but the problem with that is sunlight, so.... THE BOX has super high sides to protect the precious dorries from sunlight, but I can still see which ones I need to work on :D genius, huh?
Feeling creative, I plucked out these two beauties;

Finally got those pictures finished! Of all the dolls I've ever blushed, this senior delf has definitely been my favourite. His body is just so nicely sculpted, and I had a lot of fun adding blue veins to his hands and feet. Some of my best work yet :3 I can't wait to buy an airbrush so I can improve it even more.
The background is some random felting I did for my degree.

Speaking of the airbrushes, I really need to sell a lot more stuff before I can afford one. Curse my awesome but very low paid job >: I've actually been getting back into clothes making, which is something I've not done for a while. I've been doing so much research into historical costume, mostly for myself (I made a 15th century burgarain gown, it's fantastic) but its really inspired me for dorrie things. Especially corsets. I have a feeling Padma is going to be my new model, and she isn't going to like it... >:}
